What do I need to do for my child to come to Pear Tree Mead?

To attend our pre-school or school nursery you will need a pre-school or nursery application form from the school office.  This should be returned to the school with your child’s red book and birth certificate,  places will be offered to eligible siblings in age order(oldest first) and then other children  (oldest children) on the list at the half term before they are due to start. Our pre-school is only available for children who meet the criteria of the 2-year old free places scheme.

As part of the induction process to the school, home visits are arranged at the beginning of the term to meet with you and your family on an informal basis.

All children who are turning 5 in the academic year will begin school in reception in September, as we have only one intake per year.

If your child is due to start school in reception this year,  we have set dates for school tours.  Please call the school office on 01279 836181 or email kate.townsend@peartreemead.essex.sch.uk if you want to book a place,

You are also able to take a virtual tour by clicking here.

The Local Authority co-ordinates the school’s applications for the normal admissions round (e.g. starting school in Reception in the September) and further information can be found at Essex Schools Admissions.

You need to fill in an Essex County Council application form putting this school as your preferred choice. You should make applications online wherever possible; applications open mid-November and close mid-January, you should visit the website for full details

If you do not have online access, you can contact them using the details below :

If we have space you will be offered a place, if not, you have right to appeal.  Reasons such as having a brother or sister here, the distance from your home and any special medical reasons would all be considered.

Applications for school places outside the normal admissions round

All mid-year applications should be made directly to this academy, using the mid-year application form available on our website and/or the school office. Mid-year applications (sometimes called in-year applications) are any application for a school place made to a year group, apart from September admissions to Reception.

For applications into existing year groups, a place will be offered when the number of pupils in the relevant year group is below the admission number for that year group.

Please note: if a mid-year application is received during a school holiday period, we will respond as soon as possible when the school reopens.

We always encourage parents to visit the school.  If you are thinking of sending your child to Pear Tree Mead please telephone the school office (01279 836181) and book a time to see the school in action and meet the headteacher.

We work co-operatively with other schools therefore if your child is moving from another school we always contact your child’s present school to ensure a smooth transition.
